Dutch and Flemish Masterpiece Illustrations of the Bible

October 17- January 24
The Michael C. Carlos Museum of Emory University presents “Scripture for the Eyes: Bible Illustration in Netherlandish Prints of the Sixteenth Century”, a collection of 80 engravings and woodcuts by masters of the sixteenth century, both Catholic and Protestant. The exhibition explores how printed illustrations of religious themes magnified the texts they accompanied during a period of dramatic religious upheaval. Habits of Being: Flannery O'Conner and Sally Fitzgerald

November 5th
Anniversary of O'Connor's Letters to include Theatrical Reading

4-5pm: Panel: "30th Anniversary of the Habit of Being: The Legacy of Sally Fitzgerald," Jones Room, Level 3 of Woodruff Library on the Emory campus.

Rosemary Magee, O’Connor scholar and vice president and secretary of Emory University, will serve as moderator; panelists will include William Sessions, a retired Georgia State professor and a personal friendof O’Connor’s; Bruce Gentry, a faculty member at Georgia College & State University and editor of the Flannery O’Connor Review, a quarterly literary journal; and Elizabeth Chase, Woodruff Library Fellow.

5 – 6 pm: Lecture by Jonathan Yardley: “Flannery O’Connor’s Last Masterpiece,” also in the Jones Room in Woodruff Library.

7:30 – 9:30: Reading by Brenda Bynum: “ ‘Cheers and regards to children . . .’ The Letters ofFlannery O’Connor to Robert and Sally Fitzgerald,” Cannon Chapel, 515 Kilgo Circle on the Emory campus.

Cardinal Kaspar is an eminent theologian and is currently the President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews. His many books include Sacrament Of Unity: The Eucharist And The Church, A Celebration of Priestly Ministry: Challenge, Renewal, and Joy in the Catholic Priesthood, and Searching for Christian Unity.
