Patricia (Pat) Hamilton is a MRPL (Master of Religious Life and Public Affairs) student at the Candler School of Theology. She is also the Academic Administrator and Graduate Coordinator of the Emory Department of Sociology. Pat earned a B.A., summa cum laude, in Political Science, with minors in History and Theology from St. Peter’s College, a Jesuit institution in New Jersey. She also received a Juris Doctorate degree, with honors in Moot Court, from Rutgers University School of Law. A nationally ranked debate and public speaker during her academic career, Pat continues to work with graduate students at Emory in cultivating their public speaking skills as well as church lectors. She believes that one’s message, or the Gospel message, can be remarkably enhanced by the use of effective speaking. Pat spent years after law school working first in a large urban District Attorney’s office in New Jersey, then several civil law firms in Atlanta, before moving over to administration at Emory. She has been involved in Stephen’s Ministry, Lector leader, Just Faith facilitator, and member of the Parish Council. Pat has recently joined a new parish, St. Thomas More in Decatur, where she hopes to become involved in ministry work. Her interest at Candler has been in small faith formation groups.
